New Jersey property value and property tax
These are the State’s certified 2025 totals, copied from the Department of Community Affairs property-tax workbook. They are not an estimate built by NJ Property Maps.
Certified 2025 totals
Source: NJ Department of Community Affairs, 2025 Property Tax Information, sheet County Tax Summary, row STATE TOTAL. County rows in that sheet add up to the same state row. Property Tax Information. County abstracts are also posted by the Division of Taxation.
| Net valuation taxable | $1,385,817,542,809 |

| School levy | $18,865,933,952.99 (52.2%) |
| Municipal levy | $10,806,353,278.09 (29.9%) |
| County levy | $6,480,730,056.26 (17.9%) |
| Average residential property value | $405,153 |
| Average total property tax | $10,569.58 |
The levy is the amount used to strike the general rate. It is not cash the collector received. Appeals, deductions, and added assessments sit outside that line. The average bill is the State’s residential average for 2025. It is not the bill in every town. School, county, and municipal shares are shares of that statewide levy. State school aid is already subtracted before the school levy is struck, so aid is not a fourth slice of this table.
This site’s parcel file
The MOD-IV file loaded here is assessment year 2026. Summing net taxable assessed value on its 3,208,033 parcel rows gives $1,694,161,610,587.
That sum is not the certified net valuation taxable above. It is a later file, it includes towns after reassessment, and it is a parcel-row sum rather than the Abstract column the State certifies. This page does not multiply the 2026 assessments by the newest general rate and call the product taxes collected. Most towns in this warehouse still have a 2025 rate against the 2026 assessment file, and that pairing overstates the levy.
